For this project, I wanted to create a poster for my sorority that I just became a member of. Because Mardi Gras is coming up this month on the twenty-fourth, we are celebrating with one other sorority and two other fraternities at a bar called O'Malley's on King Street. For the poster, I wanted it to look a little busy because Mardi Gras is such a chaotic holiday. I used a large decorative font in front of a picture of a typical Mardi Gras mask which I recreated using the pen tool. To make the two elements come together, I extended the left side of the X in "MIXER" to create a handle for the mask. In the background of these elements, I used a faded picture of Mardi Gras beads to add some visual interest. I decided to use black paper for the base of the poster paired with the mask to create a mysterious motif. I think this theme really grabs the public's attention because it is so busy.

Although I wanted the poster to be very eye catching, my first draft was just too busy with the Mardi Gras beads covering the entire background. By framing the picture within the margins and only behind the central artwork/the focal point of the poster, it brought the reader's eye directly to the center of the poster and made it overall more visually pleasing. I also added the black paper and changed the type from black to a light grey. I chose grey because the white seemed too harsh of a contrast and I couldn't leave it black because then there would be nothing there!

Overall, I am very pleased with how the poster turned out and I'm excited to share it with some other girls in my sorority. This project also helped me realize some skills that I need to improve on and I always look forward to feedback on how my work can improve.
