The inspiration for my logo creation was purely because I logged on to Google and searched for coffee shop logos in the images search engine. When I saw a coffee logo with the steam from the coffee used as the "F"'s in the word coffee, I fell in love with the idea. Creating the name of my made up coffee shop was the combination of the town in which I reside, Charleston, and the name of the institution, a café.
Because I did not want to completely copy the image that inspired me, I changed the second "F" in coffee into the "E" I used for café. The colors I chose for this logo were a chestnut brown and an antique blue. I chose the brown to symbolize the color of the coffee and the blue was chosen to go with a kind of French motif that I imagine the actual café would be like. Instead of using a boring straight line for the letterhead and the business card, I thought the dotted line would be more esthetically pleasing for the audience of clients going to a small French Café in Charleston.
For the placement of the word, Charleston in my logo, I simply positioned it on the rim of the coffee cup so that it would flow nicely from the "steam" and would lead the eye to read "Café Charleston" in a very even flow. I am pleased with the way the logo turned out but if I was still able to make changes through InDesign, I would definitely go back and freshen it up now that I have learned new skills.
